St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery:
Basic Information and Regulations - Updated February 2013
All gravesites will be priced as follows: $500 each for registered parishioners; $900 for non-parishioners. [Perpetual Care included]
There will be no reserving of gravesites; that is, graves must be paid for within a year after purchase.
Plot ownership is not to be transferred. If the owner desires to sell the plot, one must sell it back to St. Joseph Cemetery for the original purchase price.
Each gravesite shall be for one casket interment—ONE additional interment of cremains or infant remains may be added to the gravesite.
Parish Office MUST be contacted before the placement of cremains in any gravesite in the cemetery.
Use of outside enclosures (grave liners/vaults) is not required by the cemetery.
No grave marker may be set in place until full payment for the grave space has been made.
Plot owners must contact the Cemetery Office at St. Joseph Parish Office BEFORE contracting ANY work to be done in the cemetery. This is to insure the proposed work plan meets cemetery specifications and regulations.
Monument companies or anyone else doing the actual work in the cemetery are to contact the Parish Office at least 48 hours BEFORE beginning the work.
Veterans VA markers can be used as a headstone grave marker. Any other placement should be approved by the Parish Office.
NO NEW CURBING OR CRADLE IS ALLOWED TO BE ADDED TO ANY SECTION OF THE CEMETERY. Curbing/cradles already in place shall remain as grandfathered into the laws of the cemetery.
Single or Double grave markers may be used. They are not to exceed the size of 2’ x 1’6” minimum or 3’ x 2’ maximum for single gravesites; 4’ x 1’ minimum or 8’ x 2’ maximum for double grave sites. Maximum height of markers is to be 3’ above marker foundation.
Planters/vases must be placed on the marker (as part of it) and not in the ground. Any other ornament or memorial must be approved by the Cemetery Committee or it will be removed.
Mausoleum: Shutters may not be engraved until full payment for the crypt has been made. The mausoleum inscription is limited to the following: name, birth and death dates, marriage date, veteran medallion and names of children.
Funeral flowers, holders, containers, baskets and easels will be removed between the 2nd and 5th day after the funeral service, depending on the condition of the flowers.
Other than at the actual time of the funeral, wreaths, easels, baskets and potted plants are not permitted during the grass mowing season.
Glass containers, tin cans, breakable plastic containers are not permitted at any time.
Statues, ceramic ware, porcelain or figurines of any kind are not permitted in the grass-covered areas at any time.
No planting of live flowers or trees directly on a burial site may be done at any time.
Artificial flowers appropriate to the season and in approved containers are permitted at any time.
Special holiday arrangements—Easter, Christmas, All Souls Day—and wreaths are permitted from 30 days before to 30 days after the holiday. All such decorations must be secured against strong winds.
Please be aware of the need to keep ornamentation simple. Overloading can be unsightly and difficult to maintain.
Floral arrangements and memorial ornaments not in keeping with the sanctity and dignity of a Catholic Cemetery will be removed and/or discarded (examples: fishing poles, beer cans, solar powered yard lights, soft drinks, etc.).
Solar powered crosses are allowed (one per stone) if they are attached to the stone or base and not placed in the grass.
Any floral arrangement will be removed when they become discolored, wilted, seasonally inappropriate or unsightly in any manner.
The beauty and serenity of the cemetery can only be sustained through proper maintenance. Adherence to the floral regulations better enables the attainment of that goal.
All regulations are subject to change at the discretion of the Pastor of St. Joseph Parish and/or the Cemetery Committee.

The “Poth” Sections
The original Poth family section of St. Ann Cemetery (located at the entrance to the property and enclosed by a fence) is subject to the same rules and regulations of the entire St. Ann Catholic Cemetery. There are limited spaces left in the original Poth section and are made available/reserved on a “first come” basis to members of the Poth family who wish to be buried there.
In the rear of the Cemetery is a large rectangular section designated for Poth family members as well. This section was arranged for—and donated by—Deacon Louis Poth. Family members choosing to be buried there are responsible for adhering to the rules and regulations of the cemetery as well. This section is cataloged in the database system of the cemetery at www.vccms.org.
